Will Monkeypox Crash the Stock Market Again?

The bearish stock market is here whether you've noticed it or not. The market has settled significantly lower in 2022. The question is whether Monkeypox
will crash the stock market again. I think the answer is quite complicated but some investors may not agree.

What is Monkeypox?

Monkeypox is a pox-like disease which first appeared in monkeys being used for research back in 1958. Monkeypox is spread primarily through human contact with infected rodents, but can also be spread through skin-to-skin contact with an infected person who is presently infected.

The main Monkeypox symptoms are fever and visible skin lesions. These symptoms can last anywhere from two to four weeks. Monkeypox is similar to smallpox but is rarely fatal. At this time there is no cure for Monkeypox, but some common anti-viral drugs may be effective in treating it.

WHO declared Monkeypox a Global Health Emergency

Now that the World Health Organization has declared Monkeypox a global health emergency investors need to focus on the ramifications of such a situation. The recent COVID catastrophe has reeked havoc on financial markets with the stock market being the most noteworthy victim. The difference this time around is the fact that Monkeypox is rarely fatal and therefore won't impact travel and attendance in public venues nearly as much.

As a matter of fact, the public is so drained by the endless media firestorm over COVID that the Monkeypox drama may not see fear levels approaching COVID ever, maybe even if it were to become another pandemic.

Is the Monkeypox Crash Coming (or not)?

The likelihood of Monkeypox causing substantial turmoil in the stock market is low. Small-cap (penny stocks) are likely to be impacted in a similar fashion as the large-caps this time. As the market is still settling down and finding support for the next roll-up Monkeypox will likely be a small bump on a big road.

What are your thoughts on Monkeypox stock market impact?

If you like to swing securities then look for monkeypox vaccine stocks to play. Other than that I don't see nearly as much stock market hype with this virus as the last one. Are there any Monkeypox vaccine stocks out there anyway?

I'm not playing monkeypox stocks, I don't think there will be nearly as much hype as with the covid stocks. I got this from bloomberg though, they are watching stocks from companies that produce monkeypox tests:

QuoteIn Japan, shares of Precision System, which makes medical testing equipment, have almost doubled since late June. Switzerland's Roche said in May it had developed three test kits to help scientists trace monkeypox.

More than 30 companies in China have obtained EU certification for their monkeypox virus detection products, Jefferies Financial Group Inc. analysts including Christopher Lui wrote in a July 25 note. These include early movers such as Autobio Diagnostics Co., Shanghai ZJ Bio-Tech Co. and Daan Gene Co. Shanghai ZJ has climbed almost 40% in July.

Small caps, micro's and overall the entire penny stock market is already volatile when there's no new world news so I would say some turbulence ahead but crashing is a longshot

crunch

The monkeypox themed stock market crash was a dud. They tried to shock the investing world and it bombed. Monkeypox is probably still going strong but no money to be made from it so you don't hear anything.
